Terms of Service
Short, and in plain language, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.
What YardScout is
An app that helps you look after a lawn. It identifies problems from photos, keeps records of what you have done, and suggests what to do and when. It is provided as-is, to you, for your own use.
The advice is informational
This is the clause that matters most, so it is not buried. YardScout tells you what to put on your lawn, how much, and when. Those suggestions come from photographs, public soil and weather data, and what you have told the app. They can be wrong.
- The product label is the law, not this app. Pesticide and herbicide labels carry legally binding application rates and restrictions. Where a label and YardScout disagree, follow the label.
- Identifications are not certain. A photo diagnosis is a best guess from an image. Treating the wrong problem wastes money and can damage turf.
- You are responsible for what you apply, for doing it safely and legally, and for any local restrictions on fertiliser or pesticide use where you live.
If being wrong would be expensive, check with your local extension service before acting.
Analysis by a third party
Photo diagnosis and the coach send data to OpenAI to produce a result. What is sent, and what is retained, is set out in the privacy policy. Output from those models is generated text: it can be confidently wrong, and it is covered by the section above.
Your account and your data
An account is optional. If you create one, keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under it. You can delete it and your data at any time, without asking anyone.
Your lawn records are yours. They are not sold, and no third party is paid for access to them.
What you agree not to do
- Use the app to break the law, including rules on chemical application.
- Attempt to extract credentials from the app, or use the analysis service other than through the app.
- Automate requests in a way that runs up cost. Usage limits exist and are enforced.
Availability
Most of YardScout works with no network at all, which is deliberate. The parts that need a server, scanning and backup, may be unavailable, changed or discontinued. No uptime is promised.
Liability
YardScout is provided without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for loss or damage arising from its use, including damage to turf, plants or property from a treatment the app suggested. Some jurisdictions do not allow limits like this, and where that is so, this section applies only as far as it may.
Changes
These terms may change as the app does. The effective date at the top says when this version took effect. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it.
