Deleting your YardScout account and data
How to delete your account
- Open YardScout and go to the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the bottom, to the section headed Account.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Read the confirmation, which lists exactly what is about to be destroyed, and confirm twice.
There is no grace period and no undo. Export your journal from Settings first if you want to keep a copy. Deleting the app on its own does NOT delete your account: the synced copy stays, which is what makes restoring to a new phone possible.
No longer have the app, or cannot sign in?
Losing access to the account does not change your right to have the data removed. Send the request below and it will be actioned by hand.
What is deleted
- Your account: the sign-in itself, immediately and permanently
- Lawns and zones: every property, boundary and zone you mapped
- Soil tests: every lab result you entered, and the readings derived from them
- Treatments, mowing and observations: the whole logged history, including costs
- Scan results: diagnoses, severities and dates held on the server
- Deferrals and skips: the recommendations you set aside and the tasks you declined
- Usage counts: the monthly scan counter kept to enforce the limit
- Everything on the phone: the app's local records, settings and the scan photos stored on the device
What is kept, and for how long
- Scan images already sent for analysis: Photographs are analysed by OpenAI, and under the arrangement described in the privacy policy they may have been used to improve their models. Deleting your YardScout account removes our copy and our records, and cannot retract what a third party has already received. Nothing new is sent after deletion.
- Routine database backups: Deleted rows can persist in the hosting provider's automated backups until those rotate out. They are not readable by the app, are never restored selectively, and are overwritten on the provider's own schedule.
Deleting some of your data without closing your account
- Individual scans, treatments, mowing entries, observations, soil tests and zones can each be deleted in the app, from the screen that lists them.
- Signing out from Settings leaves the synced copy in place and removes the session from the device.
- To have specific records removed from the server without closing your account, or if you can no longer sign in, email the address below and say what you want removed.
